Cycling through the rain

Wouldn’t it be nice to not be all wet when you are cycling through the rain? Here in the Netherlands it rains so often that i wished they invented something to stay dry while riding your bike.

WHAT

Well it’s not in the Netherlands, but maybe it will come, who knows? In Berlin you find a railway straight trough the city, the U1-Hochbahn. The space underneath the railway isn’t used for anything, although it could be useful. Now there is finally an idea for this empty space, an bicycle path. This nince-kilometer-long path will always be dry, because it’s beneath the bridge. This way, people are always able to cycle dry even when it’s raining.

The bike path runs from the center of West through one of the most popular parks of Berlin, along the canal and finally past some hotspots. The plan is also to make some things along the road like a bar, a chill zone, a lot of green and a place where you can repair your bike. With this bicycle path they hope to encourage people to go cycling in stead of driving a car. The most important part is that this path will be safe, because there isn’t any other traffic on the road.

WHY

This concept fits to the need of human beings. I can also really see this in the future city, because it's a great solution. Thereby we as humans don't exercise enough, but this stimulates people to go outdoor and take the bike. In the future there will be a lot of technologics and sometimes we need to go back to basic, in the nature. It's also a safe solution and more sustainable.
